Dr Tamysn Kiss and Jenny Pollard, Department of Environment & Geography

Dr Tamysn Kiss and Jenny Pollard from the Department of Environment & Geography outlined their highly successful industrial placement peer support scheme PYMs (Placement Year Mentors), which was implemented in response to a huge increase in the number of students taking part in the Year in Industry (now Placement Year) programme. To manage the workload associated with this increase, Tamsyn and Jenny planned and implemented a complete overhaul how the department takes care of placement students, recruiting and training returning students to offer integrated peer support.
